Frequently Asked Questions:

1.

What does my child need to wear to practice/tournaments?

For practice, shorts (without pockets) and a t-shirt are fine. Your child will need a club, or custom, singlet for the tournaments. Club singlets are available for purchase for $40. Headgear is also required. Wrestling shoes will be the only shoes allowed on the mats, at practice and tournaments. They are not to be worn outside.

2.

How long and how often are tournaments?

Tournaments are held every Saturday starting at the beginning of March. Some clubs host 2 day tournaments that include more than one style of wrestling, and are usually held on both the Friday and Saturday of that weekend. Tournaments are usually located where the hosting club is based.

Your child is not required to attend any of the tournaments. We want to see the wrestlers attend and participate in as many tournaments as they feel comfortable attending. The younger wrestlers compete in the mornings, with the older wrestlers starting in the afternoon. Specific schedules are not released until practice begins.

The state tournament marks the end of the season and is typically held the last weekend in April or the first weekend in May. State is held at the Menard Sports Center in Wasilla, AK.

The list of tournaments is available on the SCHEDULES page.

3.

What should I expect at a tournament?

Tournaments are essentially the "games" that your wrestler has been practicing for. They are streamlined very nicely. At a tournament, there are usually 10-12 matches going at one time. If you have a smartphone or tablet, trackwrestling.com is used to facilitate the matches and keep the tournament running smoothly. Other parents and coaches can give advice on using it.

4.

I'd like to coach, how do I get started?

If you'd like to coach, please email us at chugacheagles@gmail.com You will need to get at least a copper certification and your coach's card through USA Wrestling.

5.

Hydration, Hygiene, & Health?

These 3 things are extremely important when it comes to wrestling. Please click below to learn more about how to care for your wrestler during the season.

6.

Does the Chugach Wrestling Club offer scholarships?

Yes, we do. We don't want a kid to miss wrestling because of the cost. Submit a request so our board of directors can determine your need and see what funds are available. Scholarships are awarded based on need and available funds.

7.

What are the weights and classes?

The weights and classes, which are necessary for registration, can change from season to season. They also may not match the weights used in school wrestling. Please check the link below to determine your wrestlers weight and class for club wrestling.
